What is the best way to find a job without going through an agency? We live near Pomona, California?

My husband was laid off. He is working through an agency for the time being. We can’t seem to find any companies that are hiring directly. Everything online and in the newspaper seems to be through an agency. Is there a better way to search for a job as a forklift driver/machine operator? We have even sent resumes by email to companies we know have those types of jobs. Any advice would help.

I ask because that university doesn’t seem very um….developed and prestigious like UCSF and other medical schools or grads schools. Am I too biased? Anyone got into architecture program in Cal Poly Pomona?

anyway, I found some article to be eligable. the student must have completed 8 quater (6 semester) units of architectural desigh courses.
I only took 3 architectural courses, then does that mean I only took 3 semester units? Then it makes much harder to get into architecture program in cal poly pomona?
