Are you allowed to take classes at a community college at the same time you are attending a 4 year university?

More specifically… I am attending Cal Poly Pomona right now. As a first year it is near impossible to get classes. I havent even got into my freshmen english class yet and will probably take it my sophmore year because of limited classes. I am thinking about taking this class at Mt. Sac community college in the same quarter.
